The Sluagh, Dark Fantasy Art, Original Drawing
24 × 33cm or 9.4 × 12.9 inches | “The Old Kirk Ruins” - pen and ink on cartridge paper.
As soon as I learned about the Irish and Scottish Sluagh, I had to capture them in ink. Their folklore is dark and covered in shadow, believed to be a type of Fae, and even Death himself fears their presence. It was the idea that they favour liminal in-between places that captivated me the most.
Meticulously hand-drawn with the fine pen nibs and paintbrushes, I wanted this artwork to capture a fleeting moment in a ruined church yard, overgrown and forgotten to all but The Sluagh.
I wanted the composition of this piece to quietly invite you to take a closer look, to have to step into the inked lines before you make eye contact with The Sluagh, who has spotted your presence also.
Measuring 24 × 33 cm (artwork is 10.5 × 14.8cm), this original inked artwork is a one-of-a-kind piece housed in a black frame. Signed by the artist and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity and a folklore story card that tells the tale of this piece.
