Daoine Sidhe, Irish Folklore Faeries, Original Drawing

£525.00

31 × 38.6cm or 12.2 × 15.1 inches | “The People of the Mounds” - pen and ink on cartridge paper.

The Daoine Sidhe from Irish mythology are similar to faeries or elves, a race of supernatural beings that appear at the very beginning of Ireland’s birth.

These creatures have always drawn me in, particularly the idea that they were defeated in battle and so retreated to their underground faerie mounds, which you can find on Irish shores. The idea of them sleeping or simply existing underneath the earth captivated me, and before long, I found myself sitting in my studio with pen and ink in hand.

Meticulously hand-drawn with the fine pen nibs and paintbrushes, I wanted this piece to quietly invite you to take a closer look, for you to feel like you had stumbled upon a place no mortal was meant to see, for you to stay a while and look upon the resting place of Daoine Sidhe, safely hidden behind the large oak tree.
